Zuuma is a Japanese sushi restaurant located on the East side of Alesund in Norway. The restaurant is facing the harbor and is usually very busy and requires reservation. The restaurant is located in a great shopping location and attracts a lot of customers everyday. It is even very popular among the tourists from Asia countries due to its specialization in sushi.
We got back to Alesund around 4PM in the afternoon and were extremely hungry. We looked around and Zuuma appeared to be one of the restaurant that had the best reviews. In addition, Norway is known to have amazing fresh seafood so we did want to try sushi while we were here. Thus we decided to give Zuuma a try.
As we first walked in, the waitress asked us if we had reservation made, we looked surprised because it was only 4PM and most of the tables were unoccupied. Then we realized that most of the tables had been reserved, but we were lucky to get a table right away since it was still early in the evening.
We sat down and the menu was quite large. The menu offered everything from hand roles, sashimi, and nigiri. The good thing was that the menu had English description so we were able to understand. Then we decided to order seared salmon nigiri, tempura roll, Zuuma special roll, and a California roll.
Before the food was delivered to us, we could already smell it. It smelled so good with the seared salmon nigiri. The seared salmon nigiri had sweet sauce on it which made it even more smooth to enjoy. The tempura roll was crunch and the addition of sesame seed made it very aromatic. The California roll was more ordinary, but it did come with a large portion of ginger to up the taste. Then the special Zuuma roll also had seared salmon on it with tempura shrimp in the middle and fish roes on top. It was so good!
As we get the bill and get ready to pay, the waitress was surprised that we paid more as tip! We guess that Norway restaurants don't usually expect tips and the waitress was so grateful for the tips. Thus we knew that we don't have to pay the tips next time!
