St. Paul Cathedral

Tags

St. Paul Cathedral is the largest an tallest cathedral in London. It is also one of the oldest in London. St. Paul Cathedral is located at the heart of London. From the top of the cathedral, it has a magnificent view of the entire London from the top. This is also one of the reason for tourists to come, to have an aerial view of entire London.

We got to St. Paul Cathedral in the afternoon. When we got to the entrance, we were stopped by the security guard. Apparently they only let certain amount of people to enter. So  if the threshold has reached, additional people can only enter if there are people coming out. Thus we waited for like 15 minutes under the rain and finally got to get in. The admission fee wasn't cheap either. It was 20 pounds per person.

We walked in into the cathedral and we were stunned by how beautiful it was. The painted ceiling was magnificent. The details of the sculptures and the art work were simply amazing. There were many people sitting there enjoying their time as well. We walked all the way to the back to see the whole cathedral from the back, it was amazing too. In addition, we saw some people filming an interview session there. Not sure what show it was for.

We then climb the stairs to go to the top of the gallery. First it was easy to walk on this winding staircase with small steps each time. Then it got tougher where we had to go through narrow walk way and stone walls. Some part of the ceiling was very low and we had to watch our head. The last part was through a very very narrow winding metallic stairs to go  to the top. It was tough but not that hard. We got to the top in less than 5 minutes.

Once we got to the top and got to the outside to view the city, it was so nice to breath in some fresh air. The air was very stiff inside and humid. We were also so happy to see the whole city of London. It was just amazing.

There was also a crypt at the lower level of the cathedral.  We went down there to check it out and saw several large tombstones. It was quite bright down there as well, not as dark as we imagined.

We definitely recommend visiting St. Paul Cathedral. It was one of the greatest Cathedral that we have visited and it was definitely worth it.
