Sally Lunn is a very well known bakery store located at Bath, United Kingdom. It is located at an old street in Bath and occupied an old building. It actually offers brunch menus in its restaurant. Other than the restaurant, people can also purchase its famous Sally Lunn bun from its museum store at the lower level of the building.
While we visit Bath, Sally Lunn is a must visit for us to see what the bun looks like. We got to Sally Lunn in the afternoon and by the time we got there, there was actually a small line up in front of Sally Lunn's restaurant. It seemed like it was very popular. However, since we just wanted to purchase and try the bun, we walked straight through to head down to the lower level where the Sally Lunn museum was at.
The Sally Lunn museum was very small. Rather than a museum, it was more of a show case. There were models of buns, ovens, and tools showing how the buns were originally made. The store was right beside the museum and it was only selling 1 type of bun in different color of paper boxes.
Each Sally Lunn buns cost 4 pounds, which was quite pricy but it was quite large. We got about 4 of them since we were quite hungry. Once we got out onto the street, we could not wait to open the box to try out the bun.
Unlike ordinary bread sold in Western bakery store, Sally Lunn's bun was really like a bun. It was not hard but it was quite soft like Asian bread. It was very fluffy. We had few bites to taste it but found that it did not have much taste. Other than being fluffy and soft, the Sally Lunn bun tasted like any other bread. It was not sweet or anything.
We were a bit disappointed at the bun. We were expecting it to be flavored and have some sweet taste. After finishing off 1 Sally Lunn bun, we looked at the other 3 buns that we bought and did not feel like to have more. It was just not that good and did not meet our expectation.
We don't recommend to purchase buns from Sally Lunn as it was really not that special other than being fluffy soft. But if it's something that you really want to try, 1 bun would be more than enough since it is quite large.
