Gudvangen Viking Valley is a very interesting and fun place to visit! Gudvangen Viking Valley is located near Flam, about 2 hours East of Bergen. When driving on the highway, before entering the tunnel, there would be a sign for Viking Valley and the would be the place to turn. Gudvangen Viking Valley offers real life Viking experience and there are actually real Vikings settled here! It was said that more and more Vikings are coming over to settle down here!
This is definitely a place that we cannot miss! After visiting Flam, we went to visit Gudvangen Viking Valley on the way back to Bergen. When we got there, the parking lot was already full! There were real Vikings redirecting the traffic to another parking lot across the road.
After we parked the car and headed over, we paid the admission fee of 200 NKR to enter the Viking Village. To our surprise, most of the Vikings there were able to speak English. We also saw many Norwegian folks came here dressed up as Vikings, which was quite interesting. It was so fun to the Viking kids to sing on the side of the walk way. They just seemed so relaxed and happy.
Going further into the village, there was a large grass field where the Vikings wrestle against each other and train themselves. We watched several matches there and we were surprised that they were going very hard at it. One of the guy almost got choked to death. It was a scary moment. In addition, even the kids to the wrestling there.
Then there was a big cafeteria that sold some of the Viking food such as grilled Elk burger. The benches in the cafeteria has fur coats covered on top to make it warmer.
There were also some tours going around the village with different guides providing different language. The tour was free for people with admission. They would bring you to show how Vikings attack their enemy, how they make weapons, how then weave clothes, and how they hunt. It was an interesting experience.
Overall, we loved this place. We also think that this Viking Village is in a perfect location. It is located at the end of the fjord with water flowing down the mountain cliffs from the melted snow. Everything just seemed so peaceful there. We highly recommend to visit this place when taking a vacation to Bergen!
