Toshi - A family owned Japanese restaurant

Tags

Toshi is a family owned Japanese restaurant located in Beaverton.  The restaurant is located at the intersection of 185th street and Baseline.  Toshi offers authentic experience for dining at a Japanese family owned restaurant where sometimes the restaurant also offers seasonal specials. Although the name of the restaurant indicates sushi bar, Toshi also offers other dishes such as Udon, Ramen, bowl of rice, and other Japanese dish.

We have been to Toshi many times. in fact, Toshi is one of the first restaurants that I have been to when we moved to Oregon few year ago.  Since it is a family owned restaurant, there aren't many tables at the restaurant. The restaurant can fit at most 30-40 people.  Every time we go to Toshi, we always had to wait for a while to get seats if we don't go there early.  Even if we get our seats, sometimes it takes a while to get our sushi order to be delivered to our table because there are just too many sushi orders to be taken care of. There is only 1 sushi chef and he has to take care of both dine in sushi orders and take out sushi orders.

Luckily, we did not have to wait for our table when we went to Toshi on this very Friday night. We got our table right away and placed our sushi order. We ordered 5 sushi rolls this time. It includes Alaska Roll, Salmon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Eel Roll, and Tempura Roll.

After we placed our order, we were served with Miso Soup and Salad. I really like the Miso Soup here. It really feels like a home made soup.  Another thing is that the green tea at Toshi is also really good. We recommend to have the green tea when you dine there.

10 minutes later, our sushi order is here and served in a big circular plate.  The Alaska Roll has tempura flakes on it with spicy sauce.  I like the crunchy taste, but it is not my favorite due to the cooked fish in there. We could not tell what the fish is.

Next sushi roll is Spicy Tuna Roll.  It is a simple sushi roll that contains tuna inside a regular sushi roll with spicy sauce on top of it.  The tuna is quite flash and it does meet the expectation of a Spicy Tuna Roll.

Salmon Roll is my favorite. Although this is just a regular ordinary salmon roll, but I love the texture and the taste of salmon!

I like the Eel Roll the least. For some reason it has a fishy smell.  I am guessing that it is because this Eel Roll uses sea eel instead of fresh water eel. There is an option to choose fresh water eel instead when you order Eel Roll, but it is just a bit more expensive.

The last roll is Tempura Roll.  It has a tempura prawn in there with bean sprout, and also has some mayo on it.  This Tempura Roll is quite small however since it only came with 4 pieces instead of 6.

Overall, I felt like Toshi has degraded in terms of food quality. We were a bit disappointed when we went this time.  It also seems like Toshi has lost quite a lot of customers because Toshi is usually full of people on Friday that and this time we didn't have to wait for our tables.  We will still go to Toshi once a while, but probably won't have a high expectation like before.
