Mont Tremblant

Tags

Mont Tremblant is one of the three most popular ski resort in Canada. It is located about 6 hours East of Toronto and about an hour away from Montreal.  During the winter season, thousands of tourists visit Mont Tremblant to celebrate Christmas.

Driving to Mont Tremblant is quite straight forward. You can simply take highway 15 and follow the sign to Mont Tremblant village. Highway 15 will later merge with highway 117 and goes straight to Mont Tremblant village. On the day before your trip, make sure you check the weather forecast in case there is a storm coming. It would be the best to equip your car with snow tires since you will be driving in the mountain with snowy condition. Also, make sure your car has a full tank of windshield fluid. You will find yourself wiping the windshield more often than you think!

We stayed at Marriott Hotel this time within Mont Tremblant village. The hotel rate is $250 per night for us because we went before the Christmas day. The hotel rate usually hikes up after Christmas! Marriott Hotel also offers complimentary breakfast for its hotel guests. Other than Marriott, there are also other hotels within the village such as Sheraton and Fairmont.

On the next day, we went for Dog sled. Each person is about $110 and 2 people share a sled. We made the reservation online since it is a very popular activity, but they also do offer same day booking as well. The sled is being pulled by 8 furry cute dogs. A person will sit in the sled and the other person will be standing behind the sled to control the direction. The guide will take you around the snowy pine tree forest that has amazing scenery! Note that if you don't have enough physical strength, I don't recommend you to be the person to control the sled. Sometimes you have to put some strength into it so that the dogs don't pull to hard and cause the sled to flip over. After an hour of dog sled, you will reach the mid point of the tour. There is a small cabin offering maple syrup cookies and hot chocolate for you to warm up. The whole tour takes around 2 hours. You will have the opportunity to take photos with the sled dogs at the end of the tour!

On the following morning we went for skiing. Mont Tremblant has this big gondola that takes you to the top of the mountain. If you are staying at one of the hotels at Mont Tremblant village, it offers you 1 complimentary ride to the top. If you are not an expert at skiing, don't you worry. There is a green slope that comes down from the top of the mountain as well and it is quite easy. If you are first or second timer skier or snowboarder, I would recommend you to practice on bunny hill near the West side near Fairmont Hotel. The ski slope closes at 3pm because it gets so dark and cold when the sun sets. So use your time wisely!

At night, the ski slope becomes a snow tubing playground. There isn't any admission fee and it is free to all visitors! It is extremely fun! Since this event is taken place at night, the temperature is extremely cold. Make sure you wear snow hat and gloves! Even when I had more gloves on, I felt like my fingers are about to freeze.  This is also why there is a bon fire in the middle of the snow tubing park for people to warm their hands!

During the Christmas time, there is also a Santa Claus event. The Santa Claus will be riding a snow mobile coming down from the top of the ski slope. Kids can take photo with him and the Santa Claus actually give a small present too! Isn't that amazing?

During your stay at Mont Tremblant, you can also choose to head out of the village to look at other things. One of the popular activity is to go for spa at Scandanavian Spa. It has amazing hot spring and many different massage tubs. Some of the hot spring tubs are outdoor tubs, so be careful not too catch cold when you head out to outdoor hot spring!

Overall, Mont Tremblant is an amazing resort just like Blue Mountain Resort and Whistle Ski Resort. If you have not been to Mont Tremblant yet and you are a ski or snowboard lover, you should definitely pay a visit!
