Glass Orb Treasure Hunt at Lincoln City

Tags

Lincoln City is located on the coast of central Oregon.  It is about 2 hours away from Portland.  Although it is not a big cities, it still has many beach resorts along its 7 miles long beach.  Each year, Lincoln City hosts a glass orb treasure hunt event along the beach of Lincoln City.  (you can find more details here) The starting point is from Road's End State Park to Siletz River.  The local glass craftsman create these beautiful beautiful glass orbs and hide them on the beach for people to find.  Once people found the glass orb, one can register it online to see who made it.

During this President's Day long weekend, we decided to try our luck and see if we can find a glass orb.  It was also stated that there will be more glass orb along the beach during the long weekend.  We left Portland around 8AM in the morning and headed towards Lincoln City.  Although the weather report said the weather is just going to be cloudy and would not rain, it was raining very hard when we were driving through the mountain. Luckily, when we got to Lincoln city around 10AM in the morning, the rain has stopped.

We parked the car at Road's End State Park.  There are about 70 parking spaces there and it does get full later in the day.  However, you can choose to park along the side of the street if the parking lot is full.

We got off the car and started walking down the beach towards South.  The event information states that the glass orbs will only be hidden on the high tide area of the beach, thus we were walking along the hide tide area and looking for glass orbs around the logs and grass.  Along the beach, there were also few other people searching for the glass orb but it did not look like anyone has found one yet.

After walking along the beach for about 3 miles, we decided to take a break from treasure hunting and go for lunch.  Thus we took the beach access point 44 and headed back up to Highway 101 to have lunch at Maxwell's Restaurant.  After lunch, we were fully recharged and head back down to the beach to look for glass orbs.

After 2 more hours of searching, we decided to give up on searching for glass orbs.  This was more difficulty that I thought and could not find a single one.  Maybe our luck will be better next time and actually find one!
