French Press - A cafe with French crepe

Tags

French Press is a cafe styled restaurant providing French coffee drinks and various crepes.  It is located in Salem, capitol of Oregon.  The restaurant itself is located on Commercial Street and right across from Panera Bread.  The restaurant is a little bit far for people from Portland since it takes about an hour to travel from Portland to Salem.  However, if you happen to go to Woodburn outlet to do some shopping, Salem is just about 15 miles away. Thus it is not a bad idea to travel a bit further to Salem to try some of the local restaurant such as French Press.

We travelled down to Salem this weekend morning through the heavy rain because we were taking the car to do its annual maintenance check.  We went to the dealer in Salem because we bought the car there with a better deal and we were given a free maintenance service. The dealer happens to be on Commercial Street as well and is very close to French Press.  After we got our car an hour later, we headed to French Press.

When we got there, we found that the parking lot space for each car is quite small.  Most of the parking space in the parking lot is for compact cars.  We don't usually park the car at compact car parking space since we drive an SUV.  Luckily, we were able to find a regular sized parking space to park our car.

Whenever we go to the French cafe, we always like to order crepes.  French Press offers sweet crepes and savory crepes.  Thus we ordered a banana sweet crepe and a turkey savory crepe.  After we placed the order, they give us a number to hold on to and they will deliver the food to our table.

The first crepe is the banana crepe.  Like any other banana crepe that you see at other restaurants, this banana crepe at French Press is always drizzled with chocolate.  It also has whip creme on the side.  Originally I thought there isn't anything inside the crepe, but I found that there is custard creme in there and it fits so well into this sweet banana chocolate drizzled crepe.

The second crepe is the turkey crepe.  This is a savory crepe and not a sweet crepe.  Inside the crepe, there is cheese, spinach, turkey, and tomato.  The cheese is melted perfectly in the crepe and the spinach is well cooked as well.  On top of that, the crepe was not over cooked at all.  I have seen other restaurant's savory crepe being over cooked because they want the meet to be cooked in the crepe.

Overall, I love this French crepe place! I really loved the custard creme inside the sweet chocolate crepe. This is a must try place when you visit Salem.
