Chak Balam is a Mexican Restaurant located at Torrey, just outside of the Capitol Reef National Park. The restaurant may seems small, but it offers authentic Mexican dining experience in the area. The restaurant opens through out the day from 10AM to 9PM without break in between. It is said to be one of the best dining places in Torrey.
Chak Balam was suggested to us by the front desk clerk at Capitol Reef Resort. She was highly recommending it to us. We got to Chak Balam at around 4:30PM. The parking lot at the restaurant are gravel road and when we got there, it seemed sketchy at first because the place looks like a small mobile home with an open sign. As we pushed the door open and walked in, the restaurant was not big, probably fits 10 tables. The only guest in there saw us with confused look and told us this place is amazing and we should come in. So we did.
As soon as we walked in, the server led us to the table and gave us a bowl of tortilla chips with salsa sauce. Although the place is small, it was quite tidy and clean. The breeze through the window also felt really good.
We ordered a taco salad and a chimichanga. On top of that, we also ordered a Mexican cola to give it a try. We got the Jarrito Mango flavor cola. We heard that Mexican cola uses real sugar from sugarcane.
The Jarrito Mango cola was served in a glass bottle. It tastes like other colas but the sweetness seemed very natural due to the sugarcane sugar. We really liked it. The taco salad came with grill chicken and lot of fresh greens and beans. The only thing missing was the corn and we wished that it had it. The chimichanga was quite good. The cheese melted in chimichanga made the whole thing really soft and tasty. We really loved the texture of it.
Overall, we really enjoyed our dining at Chak Balam Mexican restaurant. We had a great dining experience. It is definitely worth a try when visiting Capitol Reef National Park.
